U.S. players in Europe: Performance tracker 2021/22

In our newest feature, we’ll be tracking the performances of U.S. players in Europe’s major leagues during the 2021/22 season to help you keep on top of how America’s stars are doing across the Atlantic.

From England’s Premier League to the German Bundesliga, U.S. soccer players are making their mark right across the continent and we’ll endeavor to keep you updated on their progress stateside here on Legal Sports Betting.

November 29

England

We begin as always in England’s Premier League, where Christian Pulisic came on late in Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United on Sunday. The day before, Josh Sargent featured for 68 minutes of Norwich City’s drab 0-0 draw with Wolves at Carrow Road, though the USMNT forward couldn’t make much of an impact.

Down the leagues, Duane Holmes was withdrawn in the 60th minute of Huddersfield Town’s 2-1 home loss to Middlesbrough in the Championship, while Tim Ream and Antonee Robinson’s Fulham drew 1-1 at Preston North End, with defender Ream getting on the scoresheet for the Cottagers.

Elsewhere, Lynden Gooch performed well for Sunderland in their 2-1 triumph at Cambridge in League One.

Scotland

Cameron Carter-Vickers and Christian Ramirez went head-to-head in Scotland when Celtic and Aberdeen locked horns in Glasgow. Carter-Vickers emerged victorious however, after the Hoops battled their way to a 2-1 win.

Germany

In Germany, versatile star Tyler Adams came on the in the 73rd minute of RB Leipzig’s surprise 3-1 reverse at home to Bayer Leverkusen, while giant defender John Brooks endured a similarly disappointing day as his Wolfsburg were beaten 3-1 at home by Borussia Dortmund.

Timmy Chandler played as Eintracht Frankfurt beat Union Berlin 2-1 however, while Chris Richards saw the final half an hour of Hoffenheim’s thumping 6-3 win over Greuther Furth.

Down the pyramid, Andrew Wooten was taken off in the 57th minute of Osnabruck’s 1-0 home loss to Freiburg II in the 3.Liga, while Terrence Boyd and Hallescher lost 2-0 at Viktoria Koln.

Italy

Midfielder Weston McKennie came off with what looked like an ankle injury midway through the second half in Juventus’ 1-0 loss at home to Atalanta. Gianluca Busio started and Tanner Tessman came off the bench in the 71st minute of Venezia’s 2-0 home loss to Inter Milan.

In Serie B meanwhile, Andrija Novakovich was withdrawn in the 56th minute of Frosinone’s 2-2 home draw with Pordenone in Serie B.

Spain

Exciting winger Yunus Musah saw the final eight minutes of Valencia’s 1-1 home draw with Rayo Vallecano in La Liga after he came off the bench. Full back and compatriot Sergino Dest was an unused sub however, as Barcelona roared to a 3-1 victory at Villarreal.

France

Schemer Konrad De La Fuente was taken off just before the 70th minute of Marseille’s 1-0 home win over Troyes in Ligue 1, while USMNT regular Tim Weah was introduced in the 76th minute of Lille’s 1-1 tie with Nantes

Elsewhere, Nicholas Gioacchini came off in the 56th minute of Montpellier’s 1-0 home defeat to Lyon.

Rest of Europe

Brenden Aaronson was taken off just after the hour mark in Red Bull Salzburg’s 2-1 shock loss at Austria Klagenfurt in the Austrian Bundesliga.

In the Netherlands, Luca De la Torre’s Heracles lost 1-0 at Utrecht in the Eredivisie, while in neighboring Belgium, Sam Vines’s Royal Antwerp beat Oostende 3-0 at home. Jordan Pefok’s Young Boys were beaten 1-0 at FC Zurich in the Swiss Super League, however.

Further east in Turkey, Tyler Boyd played three quarters of Rizespor’s 1-0 home win over Kayserispor in the Super Lig, while flying fullback DeAndre Yedlin played for Galatasaray in their 0-0 draw at Yeni Malatyaspor.


November 2

England

In the Premier League, Josh Sargent played 77 minutes of Norwich’s 2-1 reverse at home to Leeds United on Sunday, while Zach Steffen was once again a spectator as the keeper watched on from the bench in Man City’s surprise 2-0 defeat at home to Crystal Palace.

In the Championship, Tim Ream and Antonee Robinson both completed 90 minutes in Fulham’s 3-0 victory over WBA, while Duan Holmes featured in the first 78 minutes of Huddersfield’s 1-0 triumph at home to Millwall.

Unfortunately, Ethan Horvath was an unused sub once again in Nottingham Forest’s  1-1 draw at QPR on Saturday.

Scotland

Christian Ramirez played the full 90 minutes for Aberdeen in the Dons’ 2-1 win at home to Hearts in the Scottish Premiership. Cameron Carter-Vickers also played the entire fixture in Celtic’s disappointing 0-0 draw at home to Livingston in Glasgow.

Germany

In the Bundesliga, Chris Richards came on for the final six minutes of Hoffenheim’s 2-0 win over Hertha Berlin, while John Brooks played and was booked as Wolfsburg earned a shock 2-0 victory at Bayer Leverkusen.

Timmy Chandler didn’t make it off the bench in Eintracht Frankfurt’s 1-1 draw with Jesse Marsch’s RB Leipzig on Saturday. Julian Green was shown a yellow card during his 76 minutes of action for Greuther Futh in their 3-1 defeat at Freiburg. In the 3.Liga, Terrence Boyd got on the scoresheet again for Hallescher in their 2-1 win at home to Duisburg.

Spain

In La Liga,  Sergino Dest played the full 90 minutes of Barcelona’s 1-1 draw at home to Alaves. Matt Miazga didn’t make it off the bench for the away side. Winger Yunus Musah also watched on from the sidelines as Valencia saw off Villarreal 2-0. Likewise, Shaq Moore was an unused substitute in Tenerife’s routine 4-0 victory at home to Burgos.

France

In Ligue 1, Timothy Weah featured in the last 11 minutes of Lille’s narrow 2-1 loss at PSG. Konrad de la Fuente played 57 minutes and was cautioned in Marseille’s 1-0 triumph at Clermont.

Elsewhere, Nicholas Gioacchini made it onto the pitch for the final 11 minutes of Montpellier’s 2-0 home win over Nantes. Substitute Erik Palmer-Brown didn’t see any action in Troyes’ 2-2 draw at home to Rennes.

Portugal

Reggie Cannon was withdrawn after just 17 minutes of Boavista’s 4-1 defeat at Porto in the Primeira Liga, presumably with an injury.

Elsewhere, Alex Mendez played the full 90 minutes of Vizela’s 1-1 draw at Famalicao, while his compatriot Alejandro Alvarado was an unused sub.

Switzerland

Jordan Siebatcheu played 90 minutes of Young Boys’ 3-1 defeat at St. Gallen in the Swiss Super League on Saturday.

Belgium

Mark McKenzie was an unused substitute in Genk’s huge 6-2 victory at Zulte Waregem in the Belgian First Division A.

Turkey

DeAndre Yedlin played the full 90 minutes of Galatasaray’s 2-0 win at home to Gaziantep in the Super Lig on Sunday, while Tyler Boyd was booked when he came on for the final 24 minutes of Rizespor’s 2-1 reverse at league leaders Trabzonspor.

England

In the Premier League, Zack Steffen kept a clean sheet in a rare appearance for Manchester City in the champion’s 2-0 home win over Burnley. Elsewhere, Josh Sargent played 76 minutes of Norwich’s drab 0-0 tie at home to Brighton at Carrow Road.

In the Championship, Tim Ream and Antonee Robinson featured as Fulham beat Swansea 4-1 at Craven Cottage. Robinson was introduced in the 58th minute and subsequently scored Fulham’s fourth goal a minute into stoppage time. Tim Ream started the game. Duane Holmes also got on the scoresheet for Huddersfield Town in the Terriers’ 2-0 home win over Hull City.

Scotland

Christian Ramirez played and scored again for Aberdeen in the Dons’ 2-1 loss at Dundee in the Scottish Premiership. Cameron Carter-Vickers played and was booked in Celtic’s 2-0 victory at Motherwell.

Germany

In the Bundesliga, Chris Richards came off the bench in the 54th minute of Hoffenheim’s 5-0 home victory over Cologne on Friday. Elsewhere, John Brooks played as Wolfsburg surprisingly lost 2-0 at Union Berlin on Saturday.

Timmy Chandler also had a tough time for Eintracht Frankfurt when he was taken off at half-time in Die Adler’s 2-1 defeat at home to Hertha BSC. Julian Green meanwhile, came on in the 67th minute of Furth’s 1-0 reverse at home to VfL Bochum. In the 3.Liga, Terrence Boyd hit the net for Hallescher in their 3-2 home loss to Saarbrucken.

Spain

USMNT starlet Sergino Dest played 87 minutes of Barcelona’s 3-1 win over Valencia at the weekend, while compatriot Yunus Musah played for Los Che. Shaq Moore and Tenerife lost 2-1 to Las Palmas in the Segunda Division.

France

In Ligue 1, Timothy Weah was taken off after 71 minutes of Lille’s 1-0 lost at Clermont. Konrad de la Fuente played all but the final 15 minutes of Marseille’s 4-1 triumph at home to Lorient.

Elsewhere, Nicholas Gioacchini came on in the 83rd minute of Montpellier’s 1-0 home win over Lens.

Switzerland

Jordan Pefok was withdrawn at halftime in Young Boys’ 1-1 home draw with Luzen in the Swiss Super League.

Belgium

Mark McKenzie was taken off in the 82nd minute of KRC Genk’s 2-0 defeat at Charleroi.

Turkey

DeAndre Yedlin’s Galatasaray beat Konyaspor 1-0 at home, while Tyler Boyd had less luck when he was sent off after just 12 minutes in Rizespor’s 2-0 loss at Giresunspor.


September 28

England

Premier League

Christian Pulisic is still out with an ankle complaint and the USMNT star didn’t feature in Chelsea’s 0-1 reverse to title rivals Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.

Goalkeeper Zack Steffen was named on the bench for the Cityzens in the same game, though the talented stopper didn’t make it on to the field.

Josh Sargent played the full 90 minutes for Norwich at Everton, though that’s where the positive news ended for the striker after the Canaries were shot down 2-0 by the Toffees.

Championship

Antonee Robinson played the full 90 minutes of Fulham’s 1-1 draw with Bristol City on Saturday, as did his compatriot and defensive partner Tim Ream.

Duane Holmes played the final 26 minutes of Huddersfield’s 1-0 loss to Swansea City on Saturday after he was introduced from the bench.

Unfortunately, Ethan Horvath was an unused sub in Nottingham Forest’s  1-1 draw with Millwall on Saturday.

Matthew Olosunde is still in the treatment room and he missed Preston North End’s 0-0 draw with Birmingham the same day.

League One

Lynden Gooch missed Sunderland’s 1-0 win vs. Bolton on Saturday through injury.

Scotland

Ian Harkes played the full 90 minutes and scored a goal for Dundee United in their 1-1 draw with Celtic on Sunday, while Cameron Carter-Vickers completed the full game for the Hoops.

Christian Ramirez also got on the scoresheet for Aberdeen in their 3-2 defeat to St. Mirren the same afternoon.

Germany

Bundesliga

Chris Richards played 90 minutes and bagged an assist in Hoffenheim’s impressive 3-1 win against Wolfsburg on Saturday. Defensive lynchpin John Brooks featured for the away side for the entire game.

Tyler Adams missed RB Leipzig’s 6-0 win over Hertha Berlin on Saturday, though Timmy Chandler saw every minute of action in Eintracht Frankfurt’s 1-1 tie with FC Cologne the same day.

The evening before, Julian Green played 85 minutes in Greuther Furth’s 3-1 loss to champions Bayern Munich, while Timothy Tillman came off the bench and notched an assist for the hosts.

Joe Scally played the entire game in Borussia Monchengladbach’s 1-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund and their old boss Marco Rose on Saturday. Gio Reyna missed the fixture for the visitors as he continues his recovery from a hamstring injury.

Down the pyramid, Pellegrino Matarazzo played in Stuttgart’s 0-0 bore draw with Bochum. Bryang Kayo played the final 15 minutes of Viktoria Berlin’s 3-0 loss to Freiburg 2, while Terence Boyd didn’t feature in Hallescher’s 2-1 loss to Mannheim. Johan Gomez got in on the goalscoring act in FC Zwickau’s 2-0 win against 1860 Munich however.

Spain

La Liga

Sergino Dest was involved for the whole game and the defender grabbed a superb assist in Barcelona’s timely 3-0 win against Levante on Sunday.

Matthew Hoppe kitted out but watched on from the sidelines in Mallorca’s 3-2 defeat to Osasuna the same day.

The day before, winger Yunus Musah played 82 minutes of Valencia’s 1-1 draw with Athletic Bilbao before he was withdrawn towards the end.

Matt Miazga completed 90 minutes for Alaves in their shock 1-0 win over defending champions Atletico Madrid on Saturday.

Segunda Division

Shaq Moore was an unused substitute in Tenerife’s 3-1 loss to Almeria on Friday.

Serie A

USMNT midfielder Weston McKennie played the last 8 minutes in Juventus’ 3-2 win vs. Sampdoria on Sunday, however, Bryan Reynolds didn’t make it off the bench in Roma’s 3-2 derby loss to city rivals Lazio.

Gianluca Busio played 86 minutes of Venezia’s 1-1 draw with Torino on Monday, though sub Tanner Tessman didn’t see any action for the hosts.

France

Ligue 1

Tim Weah completed 90 minutes, registered an assist and won a penalty in Lille’s excellent 2-1 win against. Strasbourg on Saturday, while Nicholas Gioacchini saw the final 2 minutes of action in Montpellier’s 2-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain the same day.

On Sunday, Konrad De La Fuente was introduced from the bench for the last 45 minutes in Marseille’s surprise 3-2 loss to Lens. Erik Palmer-Brown didn’t feature for Troyes’ in their 1-1 draw with Angers the same day.

Portugal

Primeira Liga

Reggie Cannon didn’t feature for in their 1-1 draw with Estoril on Monday.

Owen Otasowie didn’t make the squad for Club Brugge’s 1-1 draw with Leuven on Friday.

Chris Durkin played 55 minutes and notched an assist in Sint-Truiden’s 2-1 win against Standard Liege on Saturday before he was taken off. Sam Vines didn’t make the matchday squad for Royal Antwerp’s 2-1 win against Royale Union A on Saturday.

Mark McKenzie played every minute of Genk’s 3-0 win against Seraing on Sunday.

England

Premier League

Christian Pulisic is still out with an ankle injury and the USMNT star didn’t feature in Chelsea’s 3-0 win over London rivals Tottenham on Sunday.

Goalkeeper Zack Steffen missed Manchester City’s frustrating 0-0 stalemate with Southampton on Saturday due to his positive COVID-19 test.

There was better news for Josh Sargent who started and played for 70 minutes of Norwich’s 3-1 reverse at home to Watford at Carrow Road on Saturday.

Championship

One tier down, Antonee Robinson played 90 minutes of Fulham’s 2-1 defeat to Reading on Saturday alongside fellow American Tim Ream, who also saw a full game’s action.

Duane Holmes was introduced from the bench for the final half an hour of Huddersfield’s 2-0 loss to Nottingham Forest on Saturday. Ethan Horvath didn’t make it off the sidelines however.

Matthew Olosunde’s Achille’s injury kept him in the treatment room for Preston North End’s 1-1 tie with West Brom.

League One

Sunderland star Lynden Gooch completed 90 minutes for Sunderland in the Black Cats’ 2-2 draw with Fleetwood Town on Saturday.

Cameron Carter-Vickers played 90 minutes in Celtic’s 1-0 loss to Livingston on Sunday, while Christian Ramirez played every minute of Aberdeen’s 1-0 loss to St. Johnston the day before

Ian Harkes started and scored the game-winning goal in Dundee United’s 1-0 derby win vs. Dundee FC on Sunday.

Germany

Bundesliga

Wolfsburg left key defender John Brooks on the bench for the entirety of their 1-1 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday. In the opposite dugout, Timmy Chandler was also a spectator for the duration.

Likewise, Julian Green was kept in reserve by Greuther Furth in their 1-1 tie with Hertha Berlin on Saturday. Green was joined on the bench by compatriot Timothy Tillman.

Tyler Adams saw a couple of minutes of action at the end of RB Leipzig’s 1-1 draw with FC Cologne on Saturday, while a hamstring complaint kept Gio Reyna out of contention for Borussia Dortmund’s impressive 4-2 victory at Union Berlin.

Elsewhere, Pellegrino Matarazzo played for Stuttgart in their 3-1 loss to Bayer Leverkusen, Chris Richards played all of Hoffenheim’s 0-0 draw with Arminia Bielefeld and Joe Scally feature in Borussia Monchengladbach’s 1-0 reverse to Augsburg.

Bryang Kayo played the last 15 minutes of Viktoria Berlin’s 3-0 loss to Freiburg 2, Terence Boyd didn’t feature in Hallescher’s 2-1 loss to Mannheim and Johan Gomez got on the scoresheet in FC Zwickau’s 2-0 win vs. 1860 Munich.

La Liga

Sergino Dest played every minute of Barcelona’s surprise 1-1 draw at home to Granada on Monday, while winger Yunus Musah played three quarters of Valencia’s 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid the day before.

Matt Miazga played 90 minutes in Alaves’s 2-0 loss to Osasuna on Saturday, while Matthew Hoppe came off the bench for the final 30 minutes of Mallorca’s 0-0 draw with Villarreal.

Segunda Division

Shaq Moore played the second half of Tenerife’s 2-1 loss to Mirandes on Sunday.

Italy

Serie A

Weston McKennie was an unused substitute in Juventus’ 1-1 draw with AC Milan on Sunday, Gianluca Busio played 75 minutes and grabbed an ASSIST in Venezia’s 2-1 loss to Spezia on Sunday, while Tanner Tessman was left on the bench for the visitors.

Bryan Reynolds didn’t make Roma’s squad for the Giallorossi’s 3-2 loss to Verona on Sunday.

France

Ligue 1

Tim Weah played the last 28 minutes in Lille’s 1-0 loss to Lens on Saturday, while Konrad De La Fuente started and played close to an hour of Marseille’s 2-0 win over Rennes on Sunday.

Nicholas Gioacchini came off the bench in the dying embers of Montpellier’s 1-1 draw with Troyes on Sunday and provided the game-changing assist for the hosts. Erik Palmer-Brown didn’t make the cut for Troyes however.

Primeira Liga

Reggie Cannon didn’t feature in Boavista’s 3-1 loss at Benfica on Monday, while Alex Mendez didn’t make it off the bench in Vizela’s 1-1 draw with Ferreira the day before.

Netherlands

Eredivisie

Luca De La Torre started and played 85 minutes of Heracles’ 3-2 win vs. AZ Alkmaar on Sunday.

Turkey

DeAndre Yedlin completed 72 minutes of Galatasaray’s 1-0 loss to Alanyaspor on Sunday, while Tyler Boyd notched an assist in Rizespor’s 3-1 loss to Adana Demirspor 24-hours earlier and Haji Wright bagged a goal in Antalyaspor’s 3-2 loss to Besiktas the same day.

Austria

Brenden Aaronson started and scored a goal in Red Bull Salzburg’s 2-0 win vs. Rapid Vienna on Sunday.

August 30

England & Scotland

As always, we start our weekly round-up in the UK and in England’s elite division – the Premier League, where new Norwich signing Josh Sargent was the only American player to feature.

The ex-Werder Bremen man, who scored twice in the Carabao Cup for the Canaries just days before, was named on the bench once again in the Premier League, though the 21-year-old did make an appearance in the 73rd minute of Norwich’s 2-1 reverse at home to Leicester City.

Down a division in the Championship, Antonee Robinson and Tim Ream both featured in Fulham’s excellent 3-0 victory over Stoke City, while Duane Holmes saw around 15 minutes of action when he came on late in the second half of Huddersfield’s 4-0 demolition job on Reading.

A tier further down in League One, Lynden Gooch played the full 90 minutes of Sunderland’s impressive 3-1 triumph over Wycombe Wanderers.

North of the border, California-born Christian Ramirez continued his bright start with Aberdeen in Scotland, netting the Dons’ 88th minute equalizer in their 1-1 draw with Ross County.

Germany

Moving to Germany, and wonderkid Gio Reyna was among the main protagonists in Borussia Dortmund’s dramatic 3-2 win over Hoffenheim. Reyna put his team in front in the 49th minute before he was subbed out of the game in the 62nd minute. Norwegian sensation Erling Haaland eventually netted a winner for Dortmund in injury time.

John Brooks was a key performer for Wolfsburg in their narrow 1-0 win over an RB Leipzig side that featured his compatriot, Tyler Adams.

In the 2. Bundesliga, wantaway American striker Matthew Hoppe came on as a substitute for Schalke 04 in the 74th minute of their 3-1 win over Fortuna Dusseldorf.

Terrence Boyd played for Hallescher in their pulsating 4-4 at home with Verl a league down in 3.Liga, though the 30-year-old forward couldn’t add to his two-goal haul for the campaign in the slugfest.

France

In France’s Ligue 1, Marseille’s 3-1 victory at home to St. Etienne was aided by an assist for their first goal by exciting US winger Konrad De La Fuente. The 20-year-old was later withdrawn from the action in the 56th minute of OM’s win.

In Ligue 2, Nicholas Gioacchini played 76 minutes of Caen’s drab 0-0 stalemate with Nimes at the Stade des Costières.

Spain

Moving to Spain’s sunnier climes, Yunus Musah was handed just a couple of minutes to impress when he was introduced in the 85th minute of Valencia’s 3-0 win against Matt Miazga’s Alaves. Miazga’s frustrating day was compounded when he picked a yellow card just after the hour mark.

Fullback Sergino Dest came off the bench for La Liga powerhouse Barcelona in Los Cule’s narrow 2-1 win over Getafe at Camp Nou.

Italy

In Italy, Weston McKennie endured a pretty rotten time for Juventus, when the Old Lady lost their first match PR (Post Ronaldo) in surprising circumstances at home to Empoli.

McKennie was deployed in a more attacking role in Turin, though the 22-year-old was ineffective from his more advanced position and he was subbed off at half time.

Best of the rest

Midfield schemer Brenden Aaronson was named on the bench for RB Salzburg for their clash with Hartberg in Austria, though he did make it on to the pitch in the 64th minute of their win.

Luca De La Torre played the entirety of Heracles’ 1-0 loss at home to NEC in the Dutch Eredivisie, where the midfielder was booked in the 76th minute.

In Portugal, Sebastian Soto was replaced in the 63rd minute of Porto II’s hard-fought 2-1 win at SC Covilha. Soto’s replacement Danny Loader won the game for the visitors in the final throes of the contest.

England & Scotland

We start our first weekly roundup in the UK where striker Josh Sargent made his first appearance for his new club Norwich City when he was introduced off the substitute’s bench in the 77th minute of the Canaries’ dismal 5-0 defeat to Premier League champions Manchester City.

Sargent didn’t have many chances to make an impression and the 21-year-old touched the ball just six times in the game’s final minutes at the Etihad Stadium.

One tier below the Premier League in the championship, Antonee Robinson and Tim Ream helped Fulham to a 2-0 win over Hull City in London. Unfortunately for Ream, the defender had to be withdrawn with an injury in the 21st minute, though Robinson capped a fine display at left-back with an assist for Fabio Carvalho.

In League One, Lynden Gooch was part of the Sunderland XI that toppled Wimbledon 1-0 at the Stadium of Light, though Gooch did pick up a yellow card in the 18th minute of that clash.

North of the border in Scotland, Christian Ramirez played the full 90 minutes for Aberdeen in the Dons’ 1-1 tie at Hearts in the Premiership.

Germany

In the always American-heavy Bundesliga, ex-NYRB starlet Tyler Adams played a full game in midfield for RB Leipzig in their convincing 4-0 win over Stuttgart on Friday evening.

Elsewhere, giant defender John Brooks played his part in helping Wolfsburg to record a 2-1 comeback victory at Hertha Berlin, while Julian Green played every minute of Greuther Fuerth’s 1-1 draw with Arminia Bielefeld the same day.

Borussia Dortmund wonderkid Giovanni Reyna was subbed off after 70 minutes of der BVB’s surprise 2-1 loss at Freiburg on Saturday afternoon, though the teenager managed to play more key passes (five) than anyone else on the pitch before he was withdrawn.

Promising up and comer Chris Richards came on for Bayern Munich in the 88th minute of the Bundesliga champion’s 3-2 victory over Koln on Sunday.

Down in Germany’s 3.Liga, 30-year-old forward Terrence Boyd was Hallescher’s match-winner in their narrow 1-0 triumph over Viktoria Berlin, netting his effort in the 28th minute.

France

Defending champions Lille were held to a 1-1 draw by St. Etienne in Ligue 1 on Saturday – a game in which American winger Timothy Weah played a part for 81 minutes.

Attacker Nicholas Gioacchini was introduced to proceeding in the 71st minute of Caen’s 1-0 victory over AS Nancy in Ligue 2.

Spain

In Spain, Barcelona somehow escaped with a 1-1 draw from a tough test at Athletic Club in La Liga, where Sergino Dest played 82 minutes in Bilbao.

In the Segunda Division, Shaq Moore saw some action when he came off the bench for Tenerife with four minutes left on the clock in their drab 0-0 stalemate at Sporting Gijon.

Italy

A little further east in Italy, Tanner Tessman was flying the flag for the United States. The combative midfielder joined the action in the 62nd minute against Napoli and was subsequently carded just 13 minutes later in Venezia’s 2-0 defeat.

Highly-rated schemer Brenden Aaronson – who features in our 10 most valuable U.S.s players list – was involved from the start of Red Bull Salzburg’s 3-1 win over Klagenfurt in Austria, while forward Uly Llanez played an hour of St. Polten’s loss to Team fur Wien in the second division.

American defender Mark McKenzie came off the bench in the 9-th minute of Genk’s routine 4-0 win against Leuven in the Belgian First Division A while Luca de la Torre was one of Heracles’ best players when they drew 1-1 at Sparta in the neighboring Netherlands.

Away from the bright lights of the Primeira Liga in Portugal, Sebastian Soto turned out for Porto’s B team against Nacional in the LigaPro.
