Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea Match Preview
After a strong start to his tenure at Tottenham Hotspur which included three wins and three clean sheets on the spin in the Premier League, Nuno Espirito Santo was served his first dose of reality on Saturday when his new charges were hammered 3-0 at Crystal Palace.
Tottenham had Japhet Tanganga sent off for two bookable offenses early in the second half at Selhurst Park, though Spurs had already been second best against the Eagles up to that point even if the scores were still locked at 0-0.
With the confidence wobbled by Patrick Vieira’s impressive Palace, Tottenham face an even stiffer test of their credentials on Sunday when London rivals and current European champions Chelsea cross the capital.
Thomas Tuchel’s Blues warmed up for their derby date with a 3-0 win over Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge, though the flattering final scoreline doesn’t quite reflect the difficulty Chelsea had against the marauding Villains at times.
However, in Romelu Lukaku, the Blues have a genuine match-winner and the Belgian hit his second and third Premier League goals of the campaign either side of the break to help his new employers to pocket the points.
Lukaku’s red-hot form will be a major concern for Tottenham who looked really poor at centre-half in their dismal 3-0 reverse at Crystal Palace.
With four victories in their last five league meetings with Spurs, Chelsea have had the upper hand on their rivals over the past few seasons and few would back against the Blues coming out on top again this weekend.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea Picks
Chelsea to Win @ 3/4 (bet365)
Tottenham won their first three games of the new Premier League campaign, though in truth they enjoyed the rub of the green in two of their wins against Man City and Wolves and were largely outplayed in both.
Chelsea meanwhile, have looked a far more formidable prospect and somewhat ironically, their best performance of the season came in the only game they’ve dropped points in so far.
The Blues had the look of genuine title contenders in their 1-1 draw with Liverpool at Anfield and we expect them to be too strong for a Spurs side still searching for an identity under Nuno Espirito Santo.
Romelu Lukaku to Score Anytime @ 20/21 (bet365)
Romelu Lukaku has been dynamite in the opening weeks of the new top-flight season in England and the Belgian striker looks a superb price in the anytime goalscorer market on Sunday.
Tottenham looked worryingly abject at center-half against Crystal Palace on Sunday, where Eric Dier and Japhet Tanganga struggled to cope with the movement of the Eagles’ frontline.
Tanganga will be suspended on Sunday following his red card at Selhurst Park, which means stand-in Joe Rodon will probably take his place at the heart of the Tottenham rearguard.
Rodon is bound to be a little rusty having seen just 78 minutes of action since the summer and the razor-sharp Lukaku has the confidence to punish him.
