The 2021 Northern Trust just concluded in New Jersey, and we have the winners list. Formerly known as The Barclays, the Northern Trust is a PGA tour golf tournament revolving around New York City and Boston states. Since 2007, the tournament has been coming first in the FedEx Cup playoffs.
Now let’s look at the latest news developments in the world of golf.
Tony Finau wins the Northern Trust PGA Tour Tournament.
Finau recorded a dramatic finish during the 2021 Northern Trust golf tournament in New Jersey after defeating Cameron Smith in the playoffs on Monday. According to reports, this is the first PGA Tour win since 2016. The success will see Finau proceed to the next tournament of the BMW Golf Championships in Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Maryland.
Here is how it went down. Finau had made three shots out of the lead before running off a birdie to an eagle then a birdie again. He then made a 30-putt across the 14th green and closed with a 6-under 65.
On the other hand, Smith had a fantastic run before missing a 25-foot birdie. He also missed out on round 59 at The Northern Trust to finish the tournament with a 67.
Patrick Reed to Miss the BMW Championship due to Pneumonia
In other news, Patrick Reed is expected to miss out on the coming 2021 BMW Championship tournament in Caves Valley Golf Club. The BMW Championship is the second event of the FedExCup Playoffs, which is scheduled to begin on Monday. According to reports, Reeds has been having health issues recently.
The star won the 2019 Northern Trust tournament at Liberty National, New Jersey. But in this year’s tournament, Reed has faced health challenges ranging from an ankle injury to Pneumonia. Further, during the rain-delayed round on Monday, Reed stated that he was at home battling double Pneumonia.
As a result, the golfer has officially withdrawn from the coming BMW Championships tournament 2021. According to his socials’ statement, his ankle is fine, but the bad news is that he is in the hospital battling bilateral Pneumonia. However, he also added that he was looking forward to returning to the 2021 BMW Championships tour.
During the 2021 golf summer, Reed has made it through several and demanding travel schedules. The player has transitted between Rockets Mortgage Classic, The Open Championship, the 3M Open, and the Tokyo Olympic Games.
Reed has been phenomenal in Golf Tour Championships since 2013: He has never missed the top-30 position during those past events. In this year’s Northern Trust Tournament, he is ranked at position 22 according to FedECup standings. The star is also ranked at position nine according to the U.S Ryder Cup standings.
This year’s BMW Championship will be his third consecutive event to miss due to health issues.
Keith Mitchell Proceeds to the BMW Championship
Keith Mitchell has made it through the rain-delayed final round on Monday to proceed to the BMW Championship.
Mitchel had to survive the wild tee shots on holes 14, 15, and 17. In the Northern Trust event, he missed the green but made a par on 15. Further, he made three closing birdies and shot 69 to finish T8 at 13 par.
As a result, Mitchell moved from position 101 to the 63rd position to proceed to the next FedEx tournament in Caves Valley.
