In a game that promised so much, New York Red Bulls were left disappointed for the fourth fixture in a row when they were gunned down by Eastern Conference leaders New England Revolution in a hugely dramatic contest on Saturday.
NYRB led the table-toppers 2-1 with just six minutes to go before the Revs put the foot down to net twice before the final whistle, transforming what looked like a reverse into a sensational 3-2 victory.
Red Bulls coach Gerhard Struber cut a visibly frustrated figure after his team’s latest second-half collapse and his side’s inability to maintain their performances levels over the course of 90 minutes is becoming a major issue.
Cincinnati meanwhile, dropped points for the sixth time on the spin when they failed to make a two-man advantage count at home to D.C United on Sunday.
Jaap Stam’s charges enjoyed over 60% possession against their opponents, but clear-cut chances proved difficult to manufacture. After their latest setback, Cincinnati are just two points clear of last place in the Eastern Conference, but a strong recent record against NYRB should restore some of their lost confidence.
Cincinnati have won each of their last two encounters with the Red Bulls – including their last trip to New Jersey in September last year when an 85th minute Haris Medunjanin strike bagged them three points.

Both Teams to Score -130 (DraftKings)
FC Cincinnati drew a blank in their last away game at Nashville (0-3) though they are generally reliable goal-scorers on the road.
Jaap Stam’s Orange and Blue managed to hit the net in five of their last six matches away from the Nippert Stadium and having notched in each of their last three encounters with New York Red Bulls, Cincinnati look capable of making their mark again this week.
Cincinnati have kept only two clean sheets in nine MLS away fixtures since the 2021 campaign kicked off however, and they are unlikely to keep their hosts off the scoresheet in New Jersey.
New York Red Bulls showed a keen attacking edge against a strong Revolution outfit last time out and they can maintain their 100% home-game strike rate against Cincinnati.
Half Time Result: New York Red Bulls @ 11/10 (bet365)
New York Red Bulls came out of the blocks quickly against New England Revs and they carried the lead they established through an 8th minute Wikelman Carmona effort into the half-time interval.
Indeed, NYRB have made a habit of making fast starts before wilting in the second period this season and they held an advantage at the break in four of their last five fixtures at the Red Bull Arena.
Gerhard Struber will want his players to take the initiative early on again when Cincinnati come to town later this week and though there is every chance that Red Bulls run out of steam in the second 45 again, they look a solid bet to be leading at the break.
