New York Red Bulls vs D.C. United Match Preview
New York Red Bulls’ campaign seems to be going from bad to worse and their rotten run of results continued before the international break when they slipped to a 1-0 reverse at home to Chicago Fire.
To make matters worse for under-pressure coach Gerhard Struber, Fire hadn’t won a game on the road since their final match of the 2019 season before they came and upset the Red Bulls on their own patch.
NYRB’s playoff hopes are dwindling fast following a dismal run of just one win from their last nine MLS assignments and Saturday’s crucial meeting with D.C. United suddenly looks extra tough after the Washington-based club’s fine performance in their last game.
The Black-and-Red came from a goal down to beat Philadelphia Union 3-1 at Audi Field with Ola Kamara, Yordy Reyna and Ramon Avila getting on the scoresheet – and D.C’s thrilling comeback victory fired them above the playoff line and placed them just a couple of points off fourth.
While United haven’t exactly been comfortable travellers this season, a meeting with an out of sorts Red Bulls outfit looks like a prime opportunity to add some weight to their away statistics.

New York Red Bulls vs D.C. United Picks
Both Teams to Score -140 (DraftKings)
A mix of lax defending and incisive attacking play has made D.C United reliable performers in the BTTS markets this season and we’re tipping both teams to get on the scoresheet again when Hernan Losada’s charges visit New Jersey this weekend.
Both teams have scored in 100% of D.C.’s last six MLS matches and in ten of their last 12 fixtures in the competition overall and United looked vulnerable and threatening in equal measure at opposite ends of the pitch against Philadelphia Union again before the international football hiatus.
D.C. United Double Chance @ 4/5 (bet365)
New York Red Bulls’ confidence looked to have hit rock bottom, though their 1-0 defeat at home to Chicago Fire was a fresh nadir.
With just one win from their last nine MLS fixtures including a run of just one victory in five contests at home, NYRB look like close to losing their grip on their already slender playoff hopes.
D.C. United meanwhile, received a fresh dose of confidence following their superb win over Philadelphia Union and with a record that shows just one defeat in their last four meetings with the Red Bulls, the club from the capital look a tempting price in the double chance market with bet365.
