Manchester City vs RB Leipzig Match Preview

Wisconsin-born Jesse Marsch will lead his new RB Leipzig charges into battle on the continent for the first time on Wednesday when the Bundesliga side travel to take on last season’s beaten finalists, Manchester City, in the Champions League.

The early days of the post-Julian Nagelsmann era were always likely to be uncomfortable for both Marsch and Leipzig, indeed, Die Roten Bullen were beaten in three of their last four games – the most recent of which was a 4-1 mauling at the hands of Bayern Munich, masterminded by their old taskmaster.

That harrowing reverse will have Marsch and his players – including USMNT regular Tyler Adams – fearing the worst ahead of another stiff test against one of the favourites to land the Champions League this season, Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola’s star-studded Cityzens have won three games on the bounce and their performances this season at The Etihad Stadium – where they have scored an eye-watering 10 goals in just two matches – have been breathtakingly good.

City won 1-0 at Leicester City on Saturday, though they mustered a whopping 25 attempts at the home of the Foxes and but for the heroics of Kasper Schmeichel between the sticks, the hosts might have been on the wrong end of a meaty scoreline.

The Manchester giants have match-changing, world-class operators in every department and the summer acquisition of Jack Grealish has added another creative conductor to an attacking symphony that was already near-note perfect.

The net-shredding power in their ranks should be difficult for Marsch and Leipzig to resist this week and everything points to a comfortable City victory in Manchester.

Manchester City vs RB Leipzig Picks

Over 2.5 Manchester City Team Goals +110 (DraftKings)

RB Leipzig were torn apart with worrying ease against Bayern Munich on Saturday and the sale of key defenders Dayot Upamecano and Ibrahima Konate has had a visible impact on their performances at the back.

Like Bayern, Manchester City have a frontline similarly packed with world-beaters and having scored five goals in each of their first two home fixtures of the new season, the Cityzens will be looking to fill their boots again.

With little value found in the match result markets, bettors could find more success in the goals stakes on Wednesday, where City are +110 to notch over 2.5 times against a porous-looking Leipzig.

Manchester City to Score in Both Halves @ 10/11 (bet365)

Manchester City hit the net either side of the interval in their first two tussles of the season on home soil and it’s also worth noting that they have scored in both halves in four of their last six Champions League fixtures at The Etihad Stadium.

Pep Guardiola’s attacking blueprint is arguably the most potent in world football and we expect the Cityzens to open Leipzig up in each period on Wednesday.

At close to evens with bet365, this one is too good a price to pass up.
