Liverpool vs Burnley Match Preview
After putting up the meekest Premier League title defence in living memory last season, Liverpool were determined to put their best foot forward in the new campaign and the Reds succeeded in putting down an early marker at Norwich City.
With the quicksilver Mohamed Salah influential, Jurgen Klopp’s men secured a 3-0 victory over the newly-promoted Canaries, though the win wasn’t quite as comfortable as the final scoreline suggests and Brazilian stopper Alisson had to be at his acrobatic best to keep the hosts of the scoresheet.
Nevertheless, Liverpool’s opening day showing was extremely positive and with a full house expected at Anfield for the first time in 18 months this weekend, the Reds are favorites to make it two wins from two.
Burnley have taken four points from their last two trips to the red half of Merseyside and the Clarets became the first team to beat Liverpool on their own patch since April 2017 when they ground out a 1-0 win at Anfield in January.
However, another uninspiring transfer window has left Sean Dyche’s squad a little frayed around the edges and Burnley looked flat in their 2-1 reverse at home to Brighton on matchday one, despite taking an early lead against Albion through center-half James Tarkowski.
With US-based owners, John Henry and Thomas Werner, watching on with interest, a more energized Liverpool keen to build an early head of steam should pose even more threat to Burnley than the Seagulls did, and the Reds are priced as huge odds-on favorites to pocket the points on Saturday.

Liverpool vs Burnley Picks
Liverpool and Both Teams to Score – 2/1 (bet365)
Only Arsenal (22) mustered more attempts on goal than Liverpool (19) on the opening weekend of the 2021/22 Premier League season and we expect the ferocious firepower in the Reds’ ranks to fire them to victory against Burnley.
However, even with the returning Virgil van Dijk parked back at center-half, Liverpool looked a little vulnerable defensively against Norwich at Carrow Road and if they offer up the same number of opportunities to Burnley, the Clarets have the quality to take one.
With that considered, backing Liverpool to win and both teams to score is available at a price worth backing this weekend.
Mohamed Salah to Score Anytime – 4/9 (bet365)
Prolific Egyptian Mohamed Salah opened his account for the new season with a beautifully taken effort in the 74th minute at Carrow Road and the 29-year-old is our pick to double his tally for the campaign against Burnley.
Salah is the most potent attacking weapon in Jurgen Klopp’s armory and the rapid forward notched six goals in his last ten Premier League appearances for the Reds.
On Saturday, Salah will be deployed against Burnley left-back Charlie Taylor and the Liverpool forward has far too much trickery and pace for the Clarets’ defender.
