Leicester City vs Manchester City Match Preview

Leicester City carved out a 1-0 victory over a weakened Manchester City XI in the season’s traditional curtain-raiser back in early August, though the Foxes could struggle to replicate their Community Shield success in Saturday’s Premier League fixture.

Brendan Rodgers charges have taken six points from a possible nine in the opening exchanges of the new top-flight campaign, though Leicester lost the xG (Expected Goals) battle in each of their first three matches, which suggests their points haul is an unfair reflection of their performances.

Manchester City meanwhile, bounced back from an opening weekend loss at Tottenham in typically emphatic style with back-to-back 5-0 wins over Norwich and Arsenal at The Etihad Stadium, sending a couple of warning shots to their title challengers in the process.

The Cityzens will be without first-choice keeper Ederson and his compatriot Gabriel Jesus on Saturday after Brazil invoked the 5-day-rule, which restricts them from competing at club level if an international fixture is missed.

However, City’s squad is the Premier League’s deepest and Pep Guardiola shouldn’t have too many problems filling the gaps in his team from his pool of superstars.

In fact, Leicester have more pressing personnel problems than their counterparts and Brendan Rodgers will be without Wesley Fofana, James Justin and the suspended Ayoze Perez on Saturday.

The Northern Irish manager will hope to have central defensive pair Jonny Evans and Yannick Vestergaard back in contention, though both players could be a little ring rusty following spells on the sidelines.

Leicester City vs Manchester City Picks

Manchester City to Win -165 (DraftKings)

Leicester have been pocketing points without playing particularly well so far this season and the Foxes have looked worryingly toothless in the final third.

Only Crystal Palace (6.7) have averaged fewer attempts per 90 minutes than Leicester (7.7) so far, while Man City are flying high at the opposite end of that metric with 19.7 shots per game.

Indeed, the champion’s superior firepower makes them our pick to win Saturday’s game at -165 with DraftKings.

The Cityzens have long been one of the division’s away-day specialists and having won 12 of their last 14 Premier League fixtures on the road, we’re tipping them to turn the Foxes over on their own patch.

Over 1.5 Manchester City Team Goals @ 8/13 (bet365)

Manchester City’s football in the final third has clicked into gear early this season and Pep Guardiola’s slick-passing side top the charts for xG since the summer.

Only Liverpool are averaging more attempts per game so far, though City rank joint first in England’s top flight for goals so far, notching 10 to date along with West Ham.

City have scored at least two goals in six of their last seven Premier League away matches and they are an interesting price to net over 1.5 times again against a Leicester defense that’s missing key components.
