Houston Dynamo vs FC Dallas Match Preview

Heineken Rivalry Week may be over for another year, though things are still tasty in Texas where old foes and neighbors Houston Dynamo and FC Dallas will go head-to-head for points and bragging rights at the BBVA Stadium on Saturday.

The clubs have been going at it since 2007, meeting 47 times in total over the past 14 years, with Dallas’ 18 victories giving them the edge in all-time Texas Derby results over Houston (13).

This season however, the local antagonists share common ground in terms of geography and performance. Both Houston Dynamo and FC Dallas rank among the bottom three teams in the Western Conference, with fellow Texan side Austin the only club currently bellow them.

With few high points to enjoy, this weekend’s Texas Derby takes on even greater importance than usual for both sets of supporters, though it remains to be seen if either team have the confidence to really push for victory.

Draw-specialists Houston finally ended a dreadful 16-match winless run with an emphatic 3-0 win over Austin in their last runout at the BBVA Stadium, while FC Dallas’ only victory in their last six attempts came against the same opponents back on August 30.

With confidence and form off-kilter in both camps and a lengthy record of tied games in this fixture, another share of the spoils could be on the cards in the Lone Star State.

Houston Dynamo vs FC Dallas Picks

Draw +260 (DraftKings)

Remarkably, five of the last Texas Derby encounters at the BBVA Stadium have been tied games and a repeat result looks possible when Houston Dynamo and FC Dallas new acquaintances this weekend.

Dynamo have been one of the MLS’s draw specialists in 2021 and the spoils were shared in ten of their 24 fixtures in the competition this term.

FC Dallas meanwhile, have dropped points in ten of their 12 away assignments this season, though they did earn a draw when they last visited Houston back in August (2-2).

With game-winners in short supply in both teams, backing another draw between the well-matched Texan outfits looks the best play on Saturday.

Both Teams to Score -150 (DraftKings)

Both teams found the net in each of the previous two meetings between Houston Dynamo and FC Dallas this season and the same market could be worth pursuing when the teams face off on Saturday.

Five of Dynamo’s last eight fixtures on home soil produced action at both ends, while BTTS also landed in six of FC Dallas’ last nine matches in the MLS.

In total, both teams have notched in 67% of Houston’s home games in 2021 and we’re tipping that BTTS stat to be enhanced even further this weekend.

Houston Dynamo vs FC Dallas Parlay

Tie and both teams to scored +380 (DraftKings)
