New York Red Bulls’ hunt for a sixth victory of the season goes on after they were held to a disappointing draw by a defense-minded Cincinnati FC on Thursday.

Gerhard Struber’s Red Bulls pressed well and produced some neat approach play against the Orange and Blue, but they couldn’t convert one of the 23 chances they manufactured in the 0-0 stalemate in New Jersey.

NYRB’s lack of cutting edge is becoming a real problem and with the playoff line now five points above them, they will need to find their shooting boots fast.

Chicago Fire meanwhile, missed a big opportunity to snap a five-game winless stretch against Red Bull’s rivals New York City last time out.

Fire dug the trenches and defended well at Soldier Field, though they had the chance to finish the fixture on the front foot after the visitors were reduced to ten men on the 73rd minute following Keaton Park’s second booking.

Raphaël Wicky’s goal-shy team couldn’t make their advantage count however, though as one of the MLS’s lowest-scoring outfits, that shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise.

In the first three-quarters of the contest, Chicago did show a combination of grit and determination against a strong Pigeons attack that should make them an awkward opponent for Red Bulls this weekend.

Under 2.5 Goals +105 (DraftKings)

Both Chicago Fire and New York Red Bulls have been falling short of the required standard in the final third and with misfiring forwards on either side of the dividing line, bettors should expect a low-scoring shootout at Soldier Field.

As one of the least prolific teams in the entire MLS, Fire are averaging just 1.05 goals per 90 minutes in 2021, while NYRB have hit the net just eight times in total in eight away assignments.

Both clubs drew a blank in their last fixture and we recommend taking the under 2.5 goals line with DraftKings as a result.

Draw no Bet: Chicago Fire -160 (DraftKings)

New York RB’s poor attacking performances have unsurprisingly translated into some underwhelming results and the Red Bulls have failed to win seven out of eight MLS away matches this season.

Five of those tussles on the road ended in defeat – a record that’s difficult to ignore, and while Chicago are short of wins themselves in 2021, their victories over Atalanta and Orlando at Soldier Field in July highlighted how dangerous they can be against the better teams in the MLS.

With that and NYRB’s horrible away record considered, backing Chicago in the draw no bet market looks like a smart play.
